INDEPENDENCE, Ky. —

Police say that a construction worker was hit by a truck while directing traffic in Independence.

Emergency medical services were dispatched around 1:54 p.m. to the intersection of Madison Pike and Wayman Drive for a report of an injured pedestrian. Advertisement

Independence police tell WLWT that the construction worker was hit by a Ford F-150 at the intersection while crews were working at the scene.

The driver of the truck was arrested shortly afterward and is being charged with second-degree assault.

Police have since identified the suspect as Thomas Hummel.
