A recent study has revealed dance is the most expensive sport to participate in, with an approximate $30,000 'lifetime' price tag attached to children involved from age five to 17.

But it might not have to cost that much. One exclusive dance studio in the Illawarra said it all comes down to choice.

"[Parents] can choose to spend a lot of money, or they can choose to do the bare minimum and not spend a lot of money," a member of the studio said.

"They can do two or three classes a week, or then they can go the full load.
