Somerset County has acquired a tract of vacant, wooded land along the Raritan River in Bridgewater Township to expand its Raritan River Greenway system.

The acquisition of the small parcel adds to a linear park that stretches along the Raritan River from the convergence of its North and South branches to the Middlesex County boundary.

The greenway spans seven Somerset County municipalities: Bridgewater, Hillsborough, Somerville, Raritan, Manville, Bound Brook and South Bound Brook.

County officials said the expansion supports multiple conservation goals, including protecting environmentally sensitive areas, creating recreational opportunities and preserving local character.
