Katherine Pleace was 34 and on her second cycle of IVF when she was diagnosed with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), more commonly known as premature menopause.
The HSE and the British Menopause Society define premature menopause as menopause before the age of 40, as distinct from early menopause which is the cessation of periods between the ages of 40 and 45.
