WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. (WJBF) - Around midnight, a Wrightsville Police Officer and a local firefighter were chatting in front of Sidetrack located at on East College Street in Wrightsville when an unidentified man approached them and began swinging a large bladed weapon.

Fearing for the life of the firefighter and himself, the officer shot man the multiple times.

The alleged suspect was transported by EMS to a local medical facility. There is no current report in his condition.

The firefighter sustained severe injuries to his arms and was taken by a deputy via patrol vehicle to a medical facility, where he is expected to survive.

The involved Wrightsville Police Department officer sustained no physical injuries during the incident.
