Hormel Foods is recalling frozen ready-to-eat chicken products after they may have been contaminated with pieces of metal.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, Hormel Foods Corporation announced that around 4.9 million pounds of chicken are being recalled, according to a recall notice posted to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website. The poultry was distributed nationwide to HRI Commercial Food Service locations from February to September.

The recall was issued after multiple foodservice customers reported finding metal in frozen chicken breast and thigh products they were served at an establishment, and the company determined the metal originated from a production conveyor belt.

"There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of this product," the recall notice stated.

Here's what consumers need to know about the recall.

Where were the recalled ready-to-eat chicken products sold?

"This product is only sold to foodservice customers and cannot be purchased directly by consumers," Hormel said in their news release.
