AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old woman early Monday.

According to a release, officers responded to the 400 block of Stanton Avenue for a reported shooting at 5:35 a.m. They found the victim had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead by Akron Fire paramedics.

The identity of the victim has not yet been revealed.

"Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded and are in the early stages of the investigation. More updates will be provided as additional information becomes available," Akron police officials added in its release.
