A 21-year-old woman, Amrita Chauhan, along with her ex-boyfriend Sumit Kashyap (27) and his friend Sandeep Kumar (29), has been arrested for the murder of her live-in partner, Ramkesh Meena, a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant, in Timarpur, North Delhi. The incident occurred earlier this month and was initially reported as a fire accident.

Police investigations revealed that Chauhan planned the murder out of fear that Meena possessed a hard disk containing "objectionable" videos and photographs of her. The trio, originally from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended after police analyzed CCTV footage from the building where the crime took place. The footage showed two masked individuals entering the premises, and later, a woman leaving shortly before the fire broke out, raising suspicions.

On October 6, firefighters discovered Meena's charred body inside their fourth-floor flat after responding to a fire alarm. Initially, a case was registered under sections related to causing death by negligence. However, as the investigation progressed, police identified Chauhan through her phone's location near the crime scene. After several raids, she was arrested on October 18 and confessed to the crime, implicating Kashyap and Kumar.

According to police, Chauhan and Meena had been in a live-in relationship since May. She alleged that he had secretly recorded explicit videos of her and refused to delete them. After discussing her concerns with Kashyap, he and Kumar agreed to help her retrieve the hard disk. The plan escalated to murder, with the trio reportedly beating and strangling Meena before attempting to stage the scene as a fire accident. They poured oil, ghee, and wine over his body and set it ablaze using a gas cylinder.

The police later recovered the hard disk, a trolley bag, and Meena's shirt. Kashyap and Kumar were arrested on October 22 and 23, respectively. Authorities have now charged all three with murder, common intention, and mischief by injury, inundation, fire, or explosive substance. DCP (North) Raja Banthia confirmed the arrests, noting that Kashyap worked as an LPG distributor while Kumar was preparing for the SSC CGL exams.
