AKRON, Ohio — Akron police have provided an update on the investigation into the in the Highland Square neighborhood earlier this month.
Officials announced Monday that Emahni Thomas, 23, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, having weapons under disability, and tampering with evidence for his role in the events that took place on Oct. 5.
"During the investigation, detectives found evidence that suggested that Deshawn Stafford initiated the incident by shooting at Emahni Thomas," Akron police explained in a release. "Thomas returned fire at Stafford and unintentionally struck Hutchinson, causing his death. Thomas later admitted to detectives that he disposed of the firearm he used during the incident."
Thomas was already in custody after being arrested on "unrelated charges"
