The ruling BJP heaved a sigh of relief as party rebel and former MLA Rampal Meghwal on Monday withdrew his nomination for the November 11 by-election to Anta Assembly seat in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district.

The deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended at 3 pm today. Meghwal, a former MLA from Atru, a neighbouring Assembly segment in the same district, withdrew in favour of the BJP’s official candidate, Morpal Suman.

Apart from Meghwal, four more Independent candidates also pulled out of the contest, leaving 15 candidates in the fray.

With this, the stage is set for a keen triangular contest among Morpal Suman (BJP), Pramod Jain Bhaya (Congress), and Naresh Meena (Independent).

The by-election was necessitated following the disqualification of BJP’s 2023 winner, Kanwar
