WASHINGTON — A 75-foot-tall Norway spruce from the East Greenbush, New York area has been selected as this year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and will be cut down and trucked to New York City next week, Rockefeller Center officials announced Monday .
The tree will be cut on Nov. 6, and will make the 130-mile journey before arriving at Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan on Nov. 8, the officials said .
This year's tree, estimated to be about 75 years old, is being donated by the Russ family and has served as the backdrop for countless celebrations at their home over the decades, according to Rockefeller Center Magazine.
