A major artery through Minneapolis' Uptown neighborhood is reopening this week after more than a yearlong closure.

The reconstruction of Hennepin Avenue South has been ongoing since April 2024, with crews initially focusing on the roadway between West Lake Street and 26th Street, followed by 26th Street to Douglas Avenue.

The $36 million project added protected bike lanes, wider sidewalks, upgraded bus shelters, and new METRO E Line rapid transit service, in an effort to make it safer and more accessible to everyone, including those who walk, bike, take transit, or drive.

Hennepin Avenue South is expected to reopen on Friday.
