COLLEGE POINT, Queens (PIX11) — A woman died Monday morning after a fire in her Queens home, according to officials.
A 911 call came in for a report of fire and smoke at 124-07 26th Ave. at around 5:15 a.m. on Monday, according to the FDNY.
Firefighters responded to put out the first-floor blaze, which the FDNY said took over an hour. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
After the fire was under control, an 85-year-old woman was found "unconscious and unresponsive" inside the house, according to the NYPD. She was taken to a Queens hospital in critical condition, where she later passed away, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to police.
