AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) - The Amarillo Police Department said it is investigating after one person was found dead after a trailer fire on Monday morning.

The department said officials responded at around 4:53 a.m. Monday to the area of Northwest 5th and Lamar on a reported RV trailer fire. Officers arrived to find the RV trailer "fully engulfed" in fire, and began evacuating neighboring homes while the Amarillo Fire Department extinguished the fire.

After the fire was extinguished, officials said firefighters found one person dead inside the trailer.

"Witnesses reported seeing someone walking away from the trailer and seeing smoke, which prompted them to call in," said the police department.
