HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - Harrison County Fire Rescue crews rescued a dog that fell into an old well Saturday night after the animal spent approximately two days trapped underground.
The dog, Rascal, found his way under the house and fell into the old well that is approximately 18 inches in diameter and 20 feet deep with a small void at the bottom, officials said.
When first responders arrived on the scene Saturday night, they broke up the floor in the kitchen above the well opening. Crews then lowered a rope with a loop to the bottom and lured Rascal out of the void with treats.
It took about 45 minutes, but the dog was safely pulled to the top and reunited with his family.
Officials believe Rascal had been in the well since Thursday night.
