ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A 21-year-old student at Claflin University has died after collapsing in the on-campus gym on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Savion Brown, a senior computer science major at Claflin, was playing basketball on Sunday when he collapsed. EMS arrived at the scene and performed live-saving measures before transporting him to MUSC Health Orangeburg. Brown, of Charlotte, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Orangeburg County Coroner's Office has scheduled an autopsy for later this week.
