The defending Division I champion Champlain Valley Redhawks conceded the game's first goal with 6 minutes, 14 seconds left in regulation during the girls soccer quarterfinals at Burlington High School on Sunday, Oct. 26.

A late flurry, however, kept the Redhawks' bid for back-to-back titles alive.

Top-seeded CVU struck for a trio of goals over a two-minute span to claim a 3-1 victory over the No. 9 Essex Hornets. Reese Kingsbury delivered the game-tying and go-ahead goals from set pieces, and Elsa Klein added an insurance tally to send the Redhawks to this week's semifinal round.

After Essex's Ava Conti slotted in the opening goal with 6:14 to play, CVU responded in just one minute. From about 40 yards out, Kingsbury blasted a high free kick into the back of the net to level the contest
