INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana has recorded its first death of the 2025-26 flu season.
The Indiana Department of Health is warning Hoosiers to take precautions to protect themselves.
Last year's flu season was by far the deadliest in recent memory, with 660 Hoosiers dying from the virus. That number was closer to 270 in the 2023-24 and 2022-23 seasons, according to the Indiana Department of Health's influenza dashboard.
Citing privacy laws, the department did not reveal where in Indiana the patient had died or anything about their age or identity.
“Each year we want to stress the importance of taking steps to prevent influenza, which can quickly become a serious illness for some Hoosiers and can even be life-threatening,” said State Health Commissioner Lindsay Weaver, M.D., FACEP in a statemen
