KINGSTON, N.Y. — Drummer Jack DeJohnette, a fixture of the local music scene and a jazz icon, died Sunday at 83.
DeJohnette’s social media channels said he died peacefully at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, surrounded by his wife, family and close friends.
“His legacy will live on,” the post said .
The acclaimed drummer died of congestive heart failure, his assistant, Joan Clancy, told The Associated Press.
DeJohnette, a Woodstock-area resident, played at countless local venues over the years, including the Ulster Performing Arts Center, The Woodstock Playhouse and Maverick Concerts.
In 2023, DeJohnette joined rock ‘n’ roll icon Carlos Santana and Cindy Blackman Santana in a tribute show to jazz legend Miles Davis at UPAC. Santana, a 10-time Grammy Award winner, played at both
