Drake paid tribute to the late former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford while attending the Toronto Blue Jays' Game 1 World Series victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. The rapper, who celebrated his 39th birthday, was among more than 44,000 fans at Rogers Centre. He was seen wearing a green and yellow letterman jacket representing the Don Bosco Eagles high school football team, with the name "R. Ford" embroidered on the right side.

The jacket Drake wore is not the same as the one Ford donned during his time as a volunteer head coach for the Eagles in the 2000s. Archived images show that Ford's jacket featured a patch labeled "Coach" on the right and the number "02" on the left. In contrast, Drake's jacket has decorative embroidery on the sleeves, a shorter collar, and a more modern font.

Some fans expressed confusion on social media about Drake's choice of attire. One user questioned, "What’s with that bloody jacket? It’s the Blue Jays game. You should have worn a Blue Jay shirt instead." Another asked, "Where’s your Blue Jays Jacket Drake… aren’t you a Canadian cheering for a Canadian Team?"

Barstool Sports host Kevin Clandy commented on X, saying, "No matter what you think of Drake, rocking the Rob Ford varsity jacket in Toronto for the WS is a legendary move."

Rob Ford coached the Eagles to a Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association title in 2012 but lost in the Metro Bowl final that year. His coaching career ended in controversy when he was fired in 2013 due to allegations of inappropriate behavior, which included ordering players to roll in goose droppings and arriving at practices intoxicated. These incidents were part of a tumultuous period in Ford's life, marked by substance abuse issues, which he later acknowledged and sought treatment for.

Ford's political career was also troubled. He abandoned a bid for re-election as mayor in 2014 after being diagnosed with stomach cancer but later won a seat on the city council. He passed away on March 22, 2016, after his chemotherapy treatment was unsuccessful. Drake's tribute to Ford at the World Series highlights the complex legacy of the former mayor, who remains a notable figure in Toronto's history.
