U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is ready for the government to reopen. He had a flight to catch later in the afternoon when he spoke with Louisville reporters on Oct. 27, he joked, and "I want my air traffic controller to be paid."

Paul, as a U.S. senator, is one of the few people who can help negotiate an end to the shutdown, which has affected more than one million federal workers since starting on Oct. 1 and appears likely to remain in place into November.
