U.S. Sen. Katie Britt announced today that she’s supporting a bill that could provide funding for food stamps during the ongoing government shutdown.
Britt, R-Ala., is signing on to the Keep SNAP Funded Act , which would allow Congress to appropriate the necessary funding to provide uninterrupted SNAP benefits.
The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., would allow the funding to apply retroactively to the start of the shutdown.
Britt’s announcement comes after the Alabama Department of Human Resources announced food stamps for more than 750,000 recipients in the state would be suspended next month.
