SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Melissa has bombed out today reaching the lowest pressure ever recorded this late in the season. It has dropped to 906 mb making it into the top 10 strongest storm on record.

Life-threatening hazards begins tonight and lasts through Tuesday for the island of Jamaica. Some areas could see 30 inches of rain, 13ft storm surge, mudslides, and flash flooding beside the category 5 winds.

The center is expected to make landfall into south central Jamaica early Tuesday morning as a category 5 hurricane. If it does it will be the strongest hurricane ever to make landfall into that Country ever. The previous strongest storm was Gilbert in 1988 which had the 2nd lowest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic basin at 888 mb.
