It was a big night for the Kansas City Chiefs and an especially big night for tight end Travis Kelce.
With fiancée Taylor Swift in the building for a third straight Chiefs game, Kelce had his best game of the season. The 13-year veteran scored the 83rd touchdown of his career to tie former Chiefs running back Priest Holmes for the franchise record in total touchdowns.
The Chiefs took down the Commanders, 28-7, at home for their third straight win. Since beginning the season 0-2, Kansas City has gone 5-1. Its 5-3 record is tied with the Los Angeles Chargers for second in the AFC West and puts the Chiefs one game behind the Denver Broncos for the division lead.
Washington, playing a third game without second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels, falls to 3-5 with the loss. The Commanders are 1-2 without Daniels, who sustained a hamstring injury in Week 7.

Chiefs vs. Commanders instant takeaways
- All hail the Chiefs' new (co-)king of touchdowns: Travis Kelce's third-quarter touchdown was also the 83rd of his career. That tied him with former Chiefs running back Priest Holmes for the most touchdowns in Chiefs franchise history. Outside of setting the record, Kelce's Week 8 outing was also his best of the season: six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown.
- Rashee Rice is back back: Rice missed the first six games of the season serving a suspension for his violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy: involvement in a high-speed, multi-car collision in March 2024. "Monday Night Football" on Oct. 27 was his second game back, and he caught all nine of his targets (which led the Chiefs) for a season-high 93 yards and a touchdown. Rice also recorded 12 rushing yards on two carries.
- Washington looks like a different team without Jayden Daniels: Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota's box score numbers look alright -- outside of his two interceptions -- but he struggled against the Chiefs' defense. Mariota never seemed to be on the right page with his receivers. That made running back Jeremy McNichols the Commanders' leading receiver in Week 8 with 64 yards on five catches. Terry McLaurin's quad injury seemingly flared up late, which is a cause for concern, but Mariota's inability to get him and Deebo Samuel the ball more often certainly contributed to Washington's third straight loss.

Chiefs vs. Commanders highlights
Chiefs vs. Commanders final score: Chiefs 28, Commanders 7
Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota's final pass of the game ended up in the waiting arms of linebacker Jack Cochrane. The fourth-year linebacker, who primarily plays special teams for the Chiefs, came away with his first career interception with 12 seconds left to play.
The Chiefs kneeled to end the game and win their third straight.
Commanders force Chiefs' first punt of the night
Kansas City had avoided needing to punt until the final minutes of the game. With two and a half minutes to play, Matt Araiza booted the ball back to the Commanders, who begin their drive on their own 20-yard line.
Chiefs defense forces three-and-out
The Commanders are all but conceding this "Monday Night Football" game. They punt the ball away from their own 36-yard line after gaining just one yard on their first possession of the fourth quarter.
Kansas City will start on its own 15-yard line with 6:46 left to play.
Chiefs vs Commanders score: Rashee Rice finally finds the end zone
Rice had come up just short of a touchdown on two previous plays -- one of which was even called a touchdown on the field before it was overturned upon review. He finally hit pay dirt in the fourth quarter when he broke open over the middle and took a short throw from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to the house with an 18-yard catch-and-run.
The Chiefs extend their lead to 28-7 with 7:52 left in the game.
End of third quarter: Chiefs 21, Commanders 7
Kansas City ended the third quarter with a bang. First, tight end Travis Kelce tied Priest Holmes for the franchise record in touchdowns. Then, a sack from Mike Danna on a third-and-11 play -- the final play of the quarter -- pushed the Commanders out of field goal range.
The Chiefs fielded Tress Way's second punt of the night at their own 6-yard line to start the fourth quarter and will begin their drive from there five seconds into the final period.
Chiefs vs Commanders score: Travis Kelce ties Priest Holmes for Chiefs' career TD record
Kelce hauled in a contested catch in the middle of the end zone for his 83rd career touchdown. The score tied the tight end with Holmes, the former Chiefs running back, for the most touchdowns in Kansas City franchise history.
It also gave the Chiefs a 21-7 lead with 3:20 left in the third quarter.
Tress Way boots first punt of the game
The Commanders gained 25 yards after beginning their possession on their own 1-yard line, but a third-and-5 pass to rookie Jaylin Lane ended up incomplete on a drop.
Way's 59-yard punt was the first by either team, and the Chiefs will begin their second possession of the second half on their own 25-yard line with 8:05 left in the third quarter.
Chiefs vs Commanders score: Kareem Hunt scores his second touchdown of the night
The Chiefs' running back slowly crept downfield on his team's fourth-and-goal play from the 2. Eventually, Hunt ended up wide open on the right side of the end zone, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes found him for a two-yard touchdown pass.
Hunt has two touchdowns on "Monday Night Football" -- one rushing, one receiving -- and the Chiefs hold a 14-7 lead with 10:12 left in the third quarter.
Laremy Tunsil injury update: Commanders OT ruled out
Tunsil had been battling a hamstring injury throughout the first half, and the Commanders have officially ruled out their starting left tackle for the remainder of the game at halftime.
Chiefs vs Commanders score at half: Commanders 7, Chiefs 7
The Chiefs' final drive of the half ended when quarterback Patrick Mahomes was called for intentional grounding. He made a desperation throw with his left hand to try to avoid taking a sack, but the ball didn't travel past the line of scrimmage.
The 10-second runoff that comes with the penalty melted away the final ticks of the first half, and the game is still tied at 7. The Chiefs will receive the kickoff to begin the second half.
Chiefs vs. Commanders score: Washington draws even on Terry McLaurin touchdown
McLaurin dragged his feet on the side of the end zone to haul in a floater pass from quarterback Marcus Mariota. The 11-yard pass was initially ruled incomplete, but the call was overturned after review.
This game is knotted at 7 points after kicker Matthew Wright's extra point.
Laremy Tunsil injury update: Commanders OT returns to action
Washington's left tackle missed the Commanders' second and third possessions while dealing with a hamstring injury and was ruled questionable to return.
Tunsil is back in for Washington's fourth possession near the end of the first half.
Chiefs vs Commanders score: Kareem Hunt scores first points of the game
Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was ruled one yard short after taking a direct snap on a first-and-goal play on the Commanders' 8. Hunt punched in the one-yard touchdown run on the following play to score the first points of the "Monday Night Football" clash.
Kansas City leads 7-0 with 5:46 left in the first half.
Chiefs force second straight turnover on downs
The Commanders got the ball down to the Chiefs' 28-yard line but elected to go for it on fourth-and-1 instead of trying a 45-yard field goal with fill-in kicker Matthew Wright.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota felt heavy pressure from Kansas City's front and threw a pass away. The Chiefs will begin their third possession on their own 28-yard line with 10:25 left in the first half.
Mahomes throws second interception of the night
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce tipped Mahomes' pass up into the air, and Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner was in the right spot to come down with the interception.
Neither team has gone a full possession without turning the ball over.
Washington will begin its third possession of the game on its own 41-yard line with 13 minutes left in the half.
End of first quarter: Commanders 0, Chiefs 0
Three turnovers -- two interceptions and a turnover on downs -- led to a scoreless first quarter in Kansas City.
The Chiefs will have the ball on their own 41-yard line and a third-and-4 play to start the second quarter.
Chiefs force turnover on downs
Commanders tight end Zach Ertz was ruled to be five inches short of a first down after his fourth-down catch and an ensuing virtual measurement.
The Chiefs will get the ball a second time, starting at their own 35 with just under one minute to play in the first quarter.
Laremy Tunsil injury update: Commanders OT questionable to return
The Commanders have announced that their starting left tackle is questionable to return with a hamstring injury. Tunsil went to the locker room with a couple of team trainers after Washington's first offensive drive.
Brandon Coleman, who started 12 games at left tackle for the Commanders last year, is in at left tackle on Washington's second offensive possession.
Marshon Lattimore intercepts Patrick Mahomes
Back-to-back interceptions to open the Week 8 edition of "Monday Night Football." Nine plays after the Chiefs intercepted Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota, Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore picked off Mahomes.
Lattimore sat on wide receiver Hollywood Brown's route near the sideline and jumped in front of the pass to give Washington its second possession.
The Commanders will start their second drive on their own 7-yard line with 5:35 left in the first quarter.
Laremy Tunsil injury update: Commanders OT heads to locker room
ESPN cameras caught Commanders starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil walking back to the locker room with a couple of team trainers. He is questionable to return with a hamstring injury.
Marcus Mariota intercepted after Deebo Samuel drops screen pass
Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna was at the right place at the right time. Mariota's quick throw to Samuel popped straight upwards off the receiver, and Danna collected the tipped ball for his first career interception.
The Chiefs will begin their first possession of the night on their own 32-yard line with 9:42 left in the first quarter.
