A 21-year-old Guelph man is facing charges for being clocked at more than four times the speed limit.
Guelph police said officers were conducting speed enforcement Saturday, just before 1 a.m., on Stone Road East, near Victoria Road South, when they clocked him travelling at 161 km/h in a 40-km/h zone.
Officers pulled over the vehicle and detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath, police said, leading to a roadside breath sample that registered an alert. The alert indicates a blood-alcohol concentration of 50 to 79 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, when the legal limit is 80 milligrams.
A search of the car revealed more than 30 empty beer cans in the rear seat, as well as a contaminated cannabis pipe and a vaporizer beside the driver’s seat, police said.
