JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- An off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when she crashed a department vehicle earlier in October, according to court documents.

Shamonte Desirae Lanfair, 34, of Birmingham, is charged with two counts of first-degree assault while driving under the influence. The crash happened on Highway 75 during the afternoon of Oct. 8.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency stated the Chevrolet Tahoe patrol unit Lanfair was driving hit a Toyota Corolla. The Corolla then struck a Toyota Camry.

Lanfair was taken to UAB St. Vincent's East Hospital. The driver of the Corolla and a 15-year-old passenger in the car were also transported to a hospital.
