LEE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Dozens of supporters came out to hear Democratic Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger at the Pennington Gap Community Center. It was one of several stops in Southwest Virginia for the candidate facing Republican Winsome Earle-Sears in Tuesday's election.

Democrats in Lee County are hoping the first female governor of Virginia will belong to their party.

"She'll be the first female Democratic governor, so I'm pretty excited about that," small business owner Teresa Kennedy told News Channel 11.

Kennedy is hoping Spanberger can lower taxes.

"[I hope she is] trying to keep them as low as possible so that you can keep investing in equipment and things like that," said Kennedy.
