WASHINGTON — Following a violent weekend in the District that left 12 people injured in seven shootings, Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Police Chief Pamela Smith are calling for a stricter youth curfew.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) says that between Friday night into early Saturday morning, 12 people were shot across the city.
"Over the last couple of weekends, there's been an uptick in our juvenile activity, a little different than we have been seeing throughout the summer," DC Police Chief Pamela Smith told reporters Monday morning.
Smith says that violence over the weekend does involve adults; however, her team is monitoring an uptick of crime involving youth, including three carjackings that happened in a span of minutes that involved a group of young people assaultin
