GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Many families are already anticipating the impact of SNAP benefit cuts that will take place come November 1st. Local food assistance groups said families are growing anxious about how they’ll afford groceries in the weeks ahead.
Kent County Salvation Army Development Director, Cathy Blackburn, said the impact will be immediate — and the demand is climbing fast.
“It's going to be really difficult for the people that we serve. Normally, we're helping people that get SNAP benefits, but they don't quite stretch to help feed their families for that entire month,” said Blackburn.
With the government shutdown in its fourth week, the USDA said the “well has run dry.” No new SNAP benefits will go out November first, leaving millions -- including families here in West Mich
