Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut Monday secured bail in a defamation case after she appeared before a court in Bathinda and tendered an apology to an elderly woman farmer from Punjab for the “misunderstanding” over her 2021 tweet on farmers’ agitation and submitted that she respects every “mata” (mother).
The court had last September directed the BJP MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh to be present in person and rejected her plea to appear via video conference. The defamation case stems from the actor’s retweet with her own comment on the complainant, Mahinder Kaur, 81, of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Punjab’s Bathinda. The comment was made during the 2020-21 farmer protests against the now-repealed farm laws.
