A group of Kansas travelers, including newlyweds on their honeymoon, are hunkered down at their resort on the north side of Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa approaches the island.
Across Jamaica, authorities have issued evacuation orders as waves and wind intensify along the coastline and people brace for the storm's impact.
The Kansas group has been documenting hurricane preparations over the past few days as they try to find a way home.
"We have our passports; the U.S. embassy has already been contacted," said Jordan Hockenbury.
"We are from Kansas, we are landlocked, this is a different experience," said Hailey Waltner, who lives in Kansas City, Kansas.
