UPDATE (10/27/25 1:15 p.m. ET): Two months after first opening up about his retirement plans, General Hospital vet Maurice Benard shared a new update about his future with acting. On Richard Taite’s We’re Out of Time podcast, Bernard was asked directly whether he was leaving the show. “No, I’m not leaving,” he said, according to People .

He added, “There have always been a lot of people [saying that]. I think they’re saying I’m dying, too, like I have cancer or something.” Benard pointed out that he has a “year left” in his contract, but he’s not ready to bid farewell to Port Charles. “Look, I’m going to retire, but I don’t think it’s going to be before I’m 65,” he said, which will make his GH fans breathe a massive sigh of relief. (Benard will turn 63 in March 2026.)
