FARGO — North Dakota State beat South Dakota 42-0 at the Fargodome in the final regular-season game of the 2013 season and delightful veteran head coach Joe Glenn of the Coyotes offered this postgame analysis to the gathered Fargo media: “They shook us down and took our lunch money.”
Those words came to mind late in Saturday’s Dakota Marker game in Brookings, S.D., when NDSU backup quarterback Nathan Hayes grabbed the facemask of SDSU’s Koby Bretz along the sideline at the end of a long run and flung the defensive back five yards out of bounds. Bretz was fully airborne and flew into some portable advertising boards as he landed on the turf. Then Hayes stood and posed in a dramatic “first down” gesture while staring at Bretz.
