NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The race for New York City mayor has turned into a sprint to the finish with New Yorkers smashing early voter turnout records, casting ballots at a five times greater rate than they were four years ago.
A brand new poll also shows the race getting tighter.
Over the weekend, more than 164,000 New Yorkers voted early compared to 31,000 who cast a ballot at the same time four years ago in the election Mayor Eric Adams eventually won.
General election votes are so far skewing older than they were in the June primary. So far, 50% of general election voters are over the age of 55. During the June primary, only 40% of voters in the first couple of days were over 55 years old.
