FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children has been protecting and supporting families in Fort Wayne for 25 years.

Monday, Mayor Sharon Tucker proclaimed this day as “Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children Day”.

For the last 25 years, the Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children has served as a voice and a refuge for kids across nine northeast Indiana counties.

Patricia Smallwood has been with the center since it opened in 2000, but she’s spent over 40 years working with young kids.

“I’ve always been around children; I’ve always worked with them. When I was in school, my internships were with children, and I just believed that you have an ethical obligation to stand up for the least of us and take care of them.” Patricia Smallwood.
