There is a touch of glamour, a gleam of elegance and a dollop of nostalgia as a 1938 fire truck emerges from the Quonset hut into the sunshine.
The distinctly dulled-red vehicle with yellow SCVFA stencilled on its sides has seen its share of fire emergencies over the decades as vital to Stamford Centre Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
The gleaming silver bell mounted on the grill still rings — as children are quick to discover — the three headlights remain in working order, even after being vandalized, and the siren, when it is turned on, is as distinctive as ever.
“This is our history,” said Mike Glazier, who has spent the past two years restoring this relic from another era piece by piece.
