Brendan Rodgers has quit his role as the Celtic manager, the club have announced.

In a statement, Celtic confirmed that Rodgers tendered his resignation from the club, and that he will leave his role with immediate effect.

Celtic says it "appreciates" his contribution to Celtic during his two "very successful" spells at the club.

Former manager Martin O'Neill has been announced as the interim gaffer, alongside ex-player Shaun Maloney, while a search for a new manager gets underway.

A Celtic statement reads: "Celtic Football Club can confirm that football manager Brendan Rodgers has today tendered his resignation. It has been accepted by the Club and Brendan will leave his role with immediate effect.
