A majestic Norway spruce from upstate New York chosen as Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Updated 9 mins ago A majestic Norway spruce in upstate New York has been chosen as this year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Officials said Monday that the 75-foot spruce will be cut down on Nov. 6 and arrive in Manhattan two days later. It will be wrapped in more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights and crowned with a 900-pound Swarovski star. The tree will be illuminated on December 3 during a live broadcast. The tree is being donated by the property owners where it has grown for 75 years just outside Albany, the state capital. After the holiday season, the tree will be milled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity.
