LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A new Hometown Hero banner has been raised in Old Louisville, honoring the late John Asher.
Asher had a long career in media including time as an award-winning journalist for WHAS Radio and later becoming the face and voice of Churchill Downs as the track’s spokesperson and vice president for more than 20 years.
The banner for the Hometown Hero has been placed outside of Presentation Academy of South Fourth Street.
Asher’s daughters attended the school, and he loved and supported the school so much, he is considered an honorary alum.
His wife Dee Asher spoke at Monday’s banner unveiling and spoke about what it means to her and their three daughters for Asher to have this special moment.
