LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - About 1.4 million Michigan residents who rely on SNAP benefits face uncertainty after the U.S. Department of Agriculture instructed the state to hold November benefits.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services released a statement on Oct. 23, “indicating that due to the ongoing federal government funding lapse... [Food and Nutrition Service (FNS)] has unfortunately directed MDHHS to hold November SNAP issuance and ongoing benefits until further notice.”
Michigan 211 Executive Director Jennie Pollak says their organization has seen a 70% increase in calls from people seeking food support since news of the pause was announced.
