PITTSBURGH —
The retrial in the case of Howard Hawkins has begun at the Allegheny County Courthouse.
Hawkins is accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Ahmir Tuli outside of his family’s business, Preeti’s Pitt, in Pittsburgh’s Strip District. Advertisement
Monday afternoon, during opening statements, prosecutors walked jurors through the timeline of the night Ahmir Tuli was killed, Feb. 21, 2021.
They told jurors Mr. Hawkins got kicked out of Preeti’s Pitt but came back, and while Ahmir Tuli was on break from his shift at the restaurant, prosecutors said Hawkins got into an argument with Tuli and shot him.
Prosecutors noted that, despite other evidence that the jurors will be presented with, Hawkins’ face is never seen on camera.
