Heavy rainfall over the last two days across several South Gujarat districts has inflicted heavy damage on paddy crops, resulting in significant losses for farmers.
The agricultural department on Monday started gathering preliminary information to assess the losses incurred, with Valsad district MP Dhaval Patel requesting a relief package for the farmers from Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani.
Patel wrote that due to a depression in the Arabian Sea, Valsad district experienced heavy rainfall over the past three days, and farmers who cultivated paddy suffered significant losses. The majority of farmers in Valsad are tribals, and could not bear such a loss to their crops, he added.
According to the flood control department, Valsad received 60mm of rainfall, Navsari 100mm and Surat 6
