The Kellam girls and Hickory boys raced to the Class 5 Region A cross country team championships Saturday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

The Cox girls’ Danielle Maynor (19 minutes, 6.86 seconds) and the Kellam boys’ Finnegan Manny (16:09.88) took first place individually in the 5-kilometer race.

In boys team competition, second-place Kellam and third-place Ocean Lakes joined Hickory in advancing to the state meet.

The state meet for Classes 4, 5 and 6 is set for Nov. 8 on the Oatlands course in Leesburg, in Northern Virginia.

The fastest five finishers not on that trio of teams also advanced to state: Princess Anne’s Michael Nigbur (11th, 16:49.01) and Jonathan Teeling (22nd, 17:08.14), Cox’s Joe McKnew (19th, 17:07.35) and Joe Brown (20th, 17:07.36) and Kempsville’s Kaleo Arrowsmit
