The Election Commission of India on Monday, October 27, announced the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 states and Union Territories.

Addressing a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, said the ongoing SIR exercise is the ninth since Independence, with the last one conducted 21 years ago between 2002 and 2004.

Kumar noted that political parties have repeatedly raised concerns over the quality of electoral rolls, prompting the Commission to intensify the revision process. He also informed that the first phase of the SIR was completed in Bihar with zero appeals, underscoring its effectiveness.
