The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is bracing for 48,000 Reno-area residents to not receive federal food benefits as scheduled Saturday because of the government shutdown.
“We are trying to do as much as we can to replace the food that people will be missing,” said the Food Bank’s Jocelyn Lantrip.
Nevada receives about $90 million a month from the federal government for its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP.
