LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A champion of Churchill Downs was honored with his own ‘Hometown Heroes’ banner on Monday, Oct. 27.

John Asher died unexpectedly in 2018 at the age of 62. He spent more than two decades working at the racetrack.

Many people say he is irreplaceable.

“One of the long-standing criteria, going back to Muhammad Ali, who was our first hometown hero, is the fact that we look for people that give their time, their talent,” Mike Sheehy with Greater Louisville Pride Foundation said.

Muhammad Ali, Diane Sawyer, Pat Day- the list of notable Louisvillians who’ve been honored with a Hometown Heroes banner is impressive. Monday, you could officially add John Asher to that inspiring club.
