Veterans Day is around two weeks away, and people across Green Country are preparing to honor those who served and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
A group is working to make sure veterans and their families in Cherokee County aren't forgotten.
Heading into Tahlequah from the south along Highway 62 is a monument honoring Purple Heart veterans.
It has been there for five years, and Don Nichols with the Oklahoma Military Order of the Purple Heart invites veterans and their families to join at the monument this Veterans Day. (Nichols serves as the Adjutant for Chapter 617 in Muskogee.)
He said there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at 1:30 p.m., after the parade in Tahlequah.
