CHICAGO (WGN) — What started as a routine traffic stop in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood ended with gunfire and an arrest.

It all started near Milwaukee and Lawrence avenues, just after 4 p.m. Monday, according to police. CPD said an officer tried to pull over a Jeep, but the driver drove off, hitting the officer's squad car in the process.

Police say the suspect then started shooting at the officer, striking the squad car.

Officers did not shoot back, according to police.

As the suspect drove off, Chicago police added that the suspect struck another police squad car near Sunnyside and Meade avenues.

The suspect ran off, but officers eventually arrested him near Eastwood and Meade. Charges are pending.

There are no reported injuries.
