TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Hammond teenager has been arrested after deputies say he brought a gun and drugs to school.
Deputies say it happened on Monday at Hammond High School.
School resource officers were told that a student appeared to be under the influence. After searching his bag, officers found marijuana, THC, a vape, and a handgun, which was later determined to be stolen.
The student was immediately taken into custody, and all illegal items were removed from the school.
According to officials, the school was briefly placed on lockdown during the investigation, but TPSO says no students were ever in danger.
The 16-year-old student was booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on several charges, including:
