KITTERY, Maine - If the crossbar was a few inches higher, Traip Academy sophomore Jacqueline Diallo would have scored in the first half in Monday's Class C South girls soccer semifinal against No. 5 Hall-Dale at Shapleigh Middle School.
Diallo's shot banged off the crossbar and trickled away, but the talented striker found her fortune in the second half and helped send the fourth-seeded Rangers to the next round.
Diallo broke a scoreless tie in the first minute after intermission, and added another goal with 1:53 left as Traip advanced to the regional semifinals with a 2-0 win.
"I feel like that (first goal) changed the energy on the field," Diallo said. "It definitely changed my perspective with knowing that I could (score), and it kind of gave me that confidence boost I needed."
